The nullification of the selection process that produced Oba Adegboyega Famodun as the Owa of Igbajo by Governor Ademola Adeleke was deemed vindictive and politically motivated," stated the Osun State chapter of the All Progressives Congress on Friday.

The Osun State government, on Thursday, ordered a fresh selection process for the Aree of Iree and Owa of Igbajo, nullifying their initial appointments.

The government also declared the stool of Akinrun of Ikirun, Oba Olalekan Akadiri, vacant, urging parties to await a Court of Appeal determination.

According to a statement by Commissioner Kolapo Alimi, government decisions were outlined in six White Papers on committees investigating issues raised by executive orders issued by Governor Adeleke in November 2022.

Adeleke had reversed appointments made by his predecessor, Adegboyega Oyetola, directing royal fathers to vacate palaces and initiating investigations into their selection processes.

In response, the opposition party, through its chairman Tajudeen Lawal, denounced the review of the Owa of Igbajo Land's coronation as "an unpopular, oppressive exhibition of personal vendetta."

The party criticized Adeleke's intervention, calling it a violation of the constitution and an act of political vindictiveness.

In defense, spokesperson Olawale Rasheed asserted that Adeleke's actions complied with "due process, rule of law, and the tradition of the various affected towns" as detailed in the white paper.
