Rev. Ukadike Ibeabuchi, a commissioner representing Anambra State on the Federal Character Commission, has lauded Nigerian President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for legalising the South-East Development Commission Bill.
Ibeabuchi, who is a native of Oba in Idemili South Local Government Area of Anambra State, gave the appraisal while speaking to newsmen on Monday, stating that the act was a powerful proclamation to the President’s steadfast dedication to the growth, development, and prosperity of the South-East zone.
The legislation introduced by Mr. Benjamin Kalu, Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, is aimed at helping to restore the South-East zone, ruined by the civil war 54 years ago.
The commission will be responsible for collecting and managing funds from the allocation of the federation account to rebuild roads, houses, and other infrastructure damaged by the civil war over 50 years ago.
Ibeabuchi responded to the new law by saying it's a major milestone for the region. He believes it will enable local people to lead their own development efforts and become more competitive with other areas in Nigeria and internationally.
Responding to the legislation. Ibeabuchi opined that the signing of the bill into law is a milestone for the region’s history, as it will strengthen the people to drive their development agenda and compete positively with other regions in Nigeria, West Africa, and beyond.
He said, I am pleased to express my sincere appreciation to President Tinubu for his historic signing of the South-East Development Commission Bill into law.
