Following the recent appointment of Prince Akeem Abimbola Owoade as the new Alaafin of Oyo by Governor Seyi Makinde, there are significant developments regarding his official recognition.

It has been reported that Governor Makinde is expected to present Prince Owoade with the certificate of office today. This ceremony is described as impromptu and low-key, aimed at expediting preparations for the prince's official coronation.

A source from the palace, who chose to remain anonymous, indicated that Prince Owoade has been in Ibadan since the previous day and is anticipated to return to Oyo town after receiving the certificate. The source expressed surprise at the urgency of this event, suggesting it was organized to facilitate the necessary arrangements for the formal coronation.

However, this appointment has not come without controversy. A faction of the Oyo Mesi, or kingmakers, has publicly rejected Prince Owoade's appointment, claiming it is invalid.

They argue that they did not recommend him for the position and insist that their nominee, Prince Luqman Gbadegesin, should be recognized instead. This group has raised concerns about the legality of the governor's actions and has indicated their intention to pursue legal avenues to contest the appointment.
