As Akwa Ibom State commemorates 37 years since its creation, Governor Umo Eno addressed the public regarding the delay in launching Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) buses.
He emphasized that his administration is actively seeking partners to establish refilling depots necessary for the operation of these buses.
In his anniversary address, Governor Eno stated, “We are in search of partners who will provide refilling depots for our CNG buses. Once this is achieved, we will launch this programme.
It does not make sense to buy CNG buses that will not have refilling depots”.
The governor also expressed concern over the rising fuel prices in Akwa Ibom, where petrol is reportedly being sold at exorbitant rates, with some filling stations in Uyo charging as much as N1,800 per litre.
He warned independent marketers against selling fuel above the approved pump price, stating that such actions are unpatriotic and will not be tolerated by the government. Eno announced plans to establish a Task Force to address this issue and hold violators accountable.
In his speech, he reflected on the progress made since Nigeria's return to democracy, highlighting the state's growth across various sectors and urging citizens to unite regardless of political affiliations or ethnic backgrounds.
“Politics should not divide us; ethnicity should not separate us. Let our kindred spirit be an everlasting tie that binds and shapes our daily engagement with one another,” he remarked.
