A leader of the All Progressives Congress, APC, in Niger State, Jonathan Vatsa, has requested for the resignation of the Senate President, Godswill Akpabio, for reportedly teasing hunger protesters to continue with the protest, saying “we shall be eating.”
The APC chieftain, in a press statement on Monday, portrayed the utterances as callous and shameful to the ruling party, stating that it was a show of the culture of “eating” in the Peoples Democratic Party, where Akpabio came from.
Vatsa requested that the Senate President offer an apology to Nigerians.
He said, It is a catastrophic failure and a disservice to this country to make someone like Akpabio a Senate President in the APC government. That is the cause of this government's consistent failures.
The APC, as a party, has been seized by those whom Nigerians are tired of and resolved to 'change' in 2015. They have been eating, and they want to continue eating like Akpabio made Nigerians believe.
I have mentioned this point previously, and I will repeat it: it is heartbreaking that we are giving red carpet acknowledgement to those we originally blamed for robbing this country of uninhibited freedom, so how can we get it right?
The APC chieftain said that since Akwa Ibom, Akpabio’s state, was under the PDP, he “shouldn’t have been authorised to hold the seat of the Senate President.
“This party must begin to reclaim its image and strengthen self-belief in Nigerians before 2027. This must begin with Akpabio’s resignation to let Nigerians know that we are dedicated as a party”, said Vatsa.
