AGN Debunks Rumors of Arrest, Detention of National President
The Actors Guild of Nigeria (AGN) has debunked news alleging that Emeka Rollas, its president, was detained in Umuahia, the Abia state capital.
According to journalists, there have been claims that Rollas was arrested during the weekend following his purported role in imposing an unelected chairman on the Abia state chapter of the AGN.
However, in a press release on Monday, Cornel Udofia, the AGN spokesperson, dismissed the reports as “baseless rumours circulated by local blogs in Abia.”
He noted Rollas was present at the first meeting of Emmanuel Ehumadu, the interim chairman of the Abia chapter, to support member participation.
The press release said the meeting turned chaotic, and the AGN president called on the police, who intervened and invited the individuals causing the disruption for interrogation.
The AGN announced that its president was never apprehended and detained as alleged by the news making rounds.
“Our attention has been drawn to reports circulating in local Abia blogs alleging that the AGN National President, Dr. Ejezie Emeka Rollas, MON, was apprehended and detained by the police in Umuahia,” the statement reads.
