Governor Ademola Adeleke of Osun State has ordered the immediate phased disbursement of bursary stipends to Osun State students in various tertiary institutions.
The government previously collated students’ data across tertiary institutions using records from student stakeholders. The bursary award covers about 3,500 regular students and nearly 300 law students. Each of the 30 local governments and area offices has at least 100 students on the award list.
The first phase of the award will reach beneficiaries this week as the state government intensifies efforts to alleviate the study challenges faced by Osun students in various institutions.
Speaking on the development, Governor Adeleke stated that the bursary award is just the beginning of many initiatives his administration has planned for the student sector. He highlighted that recent meetings with student leadership have further strengthened the bond between his administration and the student population, assuring that more benefits are forthcoming.
"Apart from the bursary awards, more policy actions to address the needs of our students are on the way. I plan to hold an expanded meeting with the student population soon, following up on the last meeting with the leaders of various students' associations in the state," Governor Adeleke noted.
