Governor Ademola Adeleke has reiterated the authority of the Oluwo of Iwoland over the three local governments within the Iwo zone under the Iwo Traditional Council. He has also reaffirmed his administration's commitment to completing the Iwo-Osogbo road project.
The governor has ordered the immediate reversal of any instances where consenting authority had been improperly granted to other traditional rulers in Iwoland. He directed the Ministry of Chieftaincy and Local Government to enforce this directive according to tradition and law.
In response to complaints about encroachments on the Oluwo of Iwoland's traditional authority, Governor Adeleke emphasized his respect for tradition and history, which traditionally confer leadership of the Iwo zone on the Oluwo. Through his spokesperson, Mallam Rasheed Olawale, the governor declared any unauthorized granting of consenting authority null and void.
The governor further stated that any installations of Baale by unauthorized individuals are illegal and nullified, and warned against actions that could disrupt the peace and unity of the zone. "I have heard several reports of usurpation of the Oluwo's legal authority. Such conduct is illegal and reversed. I respect the traditional institution and have deep respect for the people of Iwo and the Oluwo of Iwoland. Our government will not undermine the Oluwo's authority," Governor Adeleke stated.
He directed the Ministry of Chieftaincy and Local Government Affairs to withdraw any improperly granted consenting authority to the Olu of Ile-Ogbo, the Olowu of Kuta, or any other traditional rulers under the Oluwo. He stressed that neither he nor his government would support actions that could ignite conflict or undermine cultural heritage.
"There is no anti-Iwo or anti-Oluwo agenda in our government. Such claims are fake news. Our vision is for the equitable development of all local governments and infrastructure upgrades across Osun State. We will soon complete the Iwo-Osogbo road, which is crucial for the economic revival of the six local governments along its route," the governor assured. Governor
Adeleke dismissed rumors that the government had abandoned the road project, asserting that Iwo is benefiting from many government initiatives that will soon be evident to its residents
