A recent tanker explosion on the Abuja-Keffi Expressway has prompted the National Blood Service Agency (NBSA) to appeal to Nigerians, especially those in the Federal Capital Territory, to donate blood.
The incident, which involved a Compressed Natural Gas truck, resulted in multiple casualties, with many victims requiring urgent blood transfusions.
According to the NBSA's Director General, Prof. Saleh Yuguda, hospitals and emergency responders are working diligently to save lives, but an adequate blood supply is essential to their efforts. The agency emphasized that voluntary blood donations can be the difference between life and death for those in critical condition.
The National Emergency Management Agency reported that the accident occurred when the CNG truck lost control and collided with another vehicle, leading to a severe explosion.
While six fatalities have been confirmed and 18 vehicles were destroyed, the exact number of injured individuals remains undetermined. The injured have been taken to various hospitals in the area for medical treatment.
The NBSA is urging eligible donors to visit designated blood donation centers and hospitals across the FCT to contribute to this critical cause. For more information or directions to the nearest donation centers, individuals can contact the agency at 39 Abidjan Street, Zone Wuse, or call 07088370905.
