The Yoruba United Community in Abia State has stated that there is no problem between Yoruba and Igbo people, and they have denounced the "IgboMustGo" slogan that was popularised during the recent #Hunger protest in Lagos.
Commenting on Saturday in Umuahia after his re-election for the second term, the President General of the Yoruba United Community in Abia State, Okikiade Yusuf, recently stated that there is no conflict between Yoruba and Igbo people in Abia State. He attributed any existing tension to political factors and emphasised the need to eliminate such unnecessary divisions. Yusuf reiterated the unity between the two groups and praised the welcoming nature of Abians.
“Abia is our first state, and Yoruba is our second state. We reside in Abia, operate our business in Abia, and marry from the state as well. We will make sure that our people are lawful and contribute positively to the peace and harmony of the host communities.”
Yusuf expressed satisfaction with the community's peaceful coexistence and his role in uniting members across various local government areas in the state. He attributed his re-election to his successful efforts in fostering community unity.
The Deputy President, Adeyemi Sunday, who has been living in Abia for over 30 years, stressed the peaceful relationship between the Yoruba and Igbo communities and called for unity among southern Nigerians.
