According to ASP Maureen Chinaka, the police spokesperson in the state, the authorities received information last Tuesday about a four-member gang dressed in EFCC uniforms engaged in robbing students at their residence. The criminals confiscated mobile phones from some of the students and coerced them into transferring N120,000 to the perpetrators' bank accounts.

Chinaka disclosed that the police promptly responded by visiting the crime scene and successfully apprehended three of the robbers at the Man-O-War base in MOUAU. Along with the arrests, six stolen phones and the operational tricycle used by the criminals were recovered.

Furthermore, the authorities seized four EFCC jackets, two EFCC identification cards, one toy gun, and four EFCC search warrants from the arrested individuals. The police spokesperson did not provide details on the fourth member of the gang or their current status.

This incident underscores the importance of vigilance and prompt action by law enforcement agencies in addressing criminal activities and ensuring the safety of the community. The suspects will likely face charges related to armed robbery, impersonation, and other offenses stemming from their criminal actions.

“Investigations into the matter are still in progress.

“Abia people are advised to be security-sensitive and to report any suspicious activity to the police immediately whether the suspect is in uniform or not,’’ she stated.
