The Abia State Governor, Dr. Alex Otti, has expressed his government's readiness to develop and transform Aba into a thriving commercial city.
The governor made the revelation on Tuesday, May 28th, 2024, during a town hall meeting in Aba. The meeting was organised by the state government for the people of Abia South Senatorial District as part of the activities marking his first anniversary in office.
Otti affirmed that in the past 12 months, his government had made concerted efforts to make sure that the glory of Aba as a commercial hub was restored.
He stated that years of poor leadership by the past government had thrown Aba into a state of underdevelopment and stagnation.
The governor said, We affirmed that Aba cannot collapse under our watch.
I have noted over and over without number that one of the reasons I offered myself and made the sacrifice to come and run for the governorship was because of Aba.
Otti said that, having grown up in Aba, he feels a strong obligation to improve the city's economy and social well-being. He believes Aba has the potential for significant growth.
The governor highlighted Aba's reputation for being a city where ambitious individuals with little to their name can find opportunity and build successful ventures.
All you need to progress in Aba is hard work, sincerity, energy, and God-given skills, and then we sat and watched several decades later while Aba disappeared.
Now we are saying that we must bring Aba back.
We have a lot of programmes, and we are rolling them out one after the other. By the time we are done, you will not recognise them again.
