No fewer than seven people have been reportedly killed by Armed men who invaded Iwili community in Umogidi Ward, Upaha in Apa Local Government Area and Entekpa community in Adoka District, Otukpo Local Government Area of Benue State on Sunday night.

The attack on Umogidi has occurred just a year after unknown gunmen raided the community and killed several people.

According to Ada Ocholi, a lawyer from the local government who spoke with our correspondent, the armed men moved from the Agatu axis into Otukpo LGA.

“As of yesterday, four corpses were still in the bush and were yet to be recovered. I can’t say the number of corpses recovered so far because yesterday, I was in touch with our youth leader there.

“He told me that they just came back from the bush and there were so many of the armed men in the bush with military uniform, and some of them on top of trees with sophisticated weapons.” he said.

According to another local source, the attacks left several residents injured, and caused residents of the impacted villages to flee their homes out of fear for their lives.
The resident stated, "They came from Agatu, which they have been attacking since the beginning of the year. They invaded the Iwili community in Umuogidi through Upaha in Apa LGA, from where they also attacked Entekpa.

With the assistance of the military, seven corpses had been found as of Tuesday afternoon, according to Otukpo LGA Chairman, Alfred Omakwu.

He continued by saying that military personnel were helping with the ongoing hunt to find other bodies.

When contacted, SP Catherine Anene, the public relations officer for the state police, stated that she had not yet received any information regarding the incident.
