No fewer than 20 travelers were reportedly abducted by gunmen along the Sagamu-Ijebu-Ode Expressway around 8 PM on Sunday. One of the victims was shot in the knee during the ambush, which took place between the Sagamu Area Command of the Nigeria Police and Ilisan township.

Wemmy Osude, the Chairman of Ilisan Development Council, confirmed the incident to PUNCH Online. He reported that one victim, a resident of Ilisan Remo, was receiving medical treatment at Babcock University Teaching Hospital.

Osude added that he had spoken with the Sagamu Area Commander, expressing hope that security agents would swiftly pursue the criminals and rescue the abducted individuals.

This incident follows the recent abduction of two others and the murder of Prof. Yinka Olomojobi of Babcock University at the Ajadeh Event Centre along the Iperu-Sagamu Road, Iperu Remo. Prof. Olomojobi was a renowned professor of human rights and gender law.

Confirming the abduction in a statement on Monday, SP Omolola Odutola of the Ogun State Police Command stated that a group of armed individuals in an unregistered Venza Toyota car blocked the victim’s vehicle, fired shots at the tires, and forced the driver into their vehicle before speeding off towards Ijebu-Ode.

During the incident, the gunmen also injured the driver of a Toyota Camry and smashed the windshield of a bus traveling from Abuja to Lagos, stealing the driver’s phone.

The injured driver was promptly taken to Babcock University Teaching Hospital and is responding to treatment. The Commissioner of Police has been briefed and has directed the Anti-Kidnapping unit to take up the investigation. No casualties were reported, although two vehicles were damaged and subsequently towed to the station.
