The Nigerian Defence Headquarters has announced the neutralization of 1,166 terrorists by military forces in the month of August 2024.

In addition to these efforts, troops successfully arrested 1,096 suspected terrorists and other criminal elements, rescued 721 kidnapped hostages, and seized a significant cache of weapons and ammunition, including 391 weapons and 15,234 rounds of ammunition.

During a press briefing in Abuja on Thursday, Major General Edward Buba, Director of Defence Media Operations, provided these updates while detailing the operational achievements of the military and other security agencies. He noted that the military's ongoing operations have considerably weakened terror groups in the North-East region, leading to a noticeable reduction in their threats.

Major General Buba also highlighted that the military is extending its operations beyond the North-East, with intensified efforts in the North-West, North-Central, South-East, and South-South regions. These efforts are aimed at dismantling and defeating the security threats that persist in these areas.

Addressing the situation in the South-South region, Major General Buba urged international oil companies to maintain transparency and implement accurate metering systems to combat crude oil theft.

He reiterated that the military is committed to enforcing the prosecution of those involved in crude oil theft, emphasizing the importance of monitoring these prosecutions to ensure justice is served.
