The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints made a call on governments in Africa to reject external pressure to add inappropriate sexual contents in school curriculum for students in early classes.
In a communique made available to the end of its 5th edition of “strengthening families conference” held in Abuja, it said African governments should resist the pressures by groups who are canvassing for anti-traditional marriages and families, which it noted would destroy the fabric of African societies.
It however, called on ministries of gender, women, children and social protection in African countries to roll out social protection policies that would empower and build the resilience of families.
“Marriage between a man and woman is sacred, therefore couples should go into it with every sense of responsibility and be conscious of the fact that families and marriages are under attack by different socio- cultural issues, they have a duty to make their marriage work. Thus, African countries should establish national awards for individuals and organizations that contribute to strengthening families and traditional marriage values.”
It added that stronger nations are built on successful marriages and families and when marriage is recognized by couples as a union of equals, both the husband and wife will commit their God-given talents and resources towards the success of the families.
It stated that families and marriages are a lifetime project that requires sacrifices, nurturing and understanding by couples, as such, they should learn from their mistakes, making amends and perfecting the union for better and optimum result.
“That couples should, as much as possible, avoid external interference in their families and marriages and learn to resolve their differences themselves without allowing a third-party intervention, unless absolutely relevant.”
