Ghana, officially the Republic of Ghana, is a country in West Africa. It abuts the Gulf of Guinea and the Atlantic Ocean to the south, sharing borders with Ivory Coast in the west, Burkina Faso in the north, and Togo in the east.
Ghana Month, as the month of March is known among citizens, is dedicated to celebrating Ghana's culture and other historic events that have given birth to the current Ghana, as it is her month of independence from colonial rule.
Apart from December, the best time to visit Ghana is in March, “Ghana Month." You get to see the streets of Ghana colored with beautiful African print designs, our beautiful Bonwire kente, and the ever-amazing smocks from the northern parts of Ghana.
Ghana Month over the years has attracted a lot of foreigners from the diaspora to come witness and experience our culture, music, food, dance, and language, as well as lots of products made in Ghana.
Traditional Ghanaian food is typified by the distribution of food crops. With the prominence of tropical produce like corn, beans, millet, plantains, and cassava, most ethnic groups creatively employ these foodstuffs to make mouth-watering dishes for their nourishment.
Our Ghanaian food is gradually becoming an international delicacy as people around the world have embraced it in their homes and lifestyles.
Foreigners from other countries cannot get enough of our Banku and Tilapia, the ever-delicious street morning Waakye, the controversial Ghana Jollof, the easy on the throat Fufu and Goat Light Soup, Tuo-Zaafi, the popular Kenkey and Fried fish, kelewele and the everyday savior Gob3.
However, you may be wondering why Ghanaians always look colourful during "Made in Ghana" month. The fashion industry in Ghana is predominately of textiles and clothing and therefore largely consists of local artisans and designers who specialize in the reinvention of traditional clothes such as kente and smock (fugu) as well as wax prints with a modern sense of touch.
They are made from the hard work of artistic kente weavers, smock weavers, tie and dye makers and print producers.
The smock and Kente cloth are the national dress of Ghana. Kente cloth originated from Bonwire in the Ashanti region of Ghana. Kente refers to a Ghanaian textile, made of handwoven cloth, strips of silk and cotton.
Historically the fabric was worn in a toga-like fashion by royalty among the Akan. The smock is made of hand-loomed strips popularly called Strip Cloths.
Moreover, let’s not forget the most important thing that has put Ghana on foreigners top lists for visits and relaxation, tourism.
