This is an extensive crime scene, our detectives are going to be here quite a while,” he uttered.
According to a witness, hundreds of people gathered in the area for an event called “Brooklyn Day.”
Also, Lakell Nelson, 54, said there had been several false alarms of people mistaking the sounds of fireworks for gunfire earlier in the night while she was at the street party. However, by the time she was getting to her car, the actual shooting began.
“The shots were just going on and on and on,” she stated.
Baltimore Mayor Brandon Scott, while speaking to newsmen at the crime scene, condemned the shooting.
“This is an absolute tragedy that did not have to happen,” he said. “It again highlights the impacts and the need to deal with the over-proliferation of illegal guns on our streets and the ability for those who should not have them to get their hands on them.
“We will not stop until we find those cowards who decided to just shoot dozens of people, causing two people to lose their lives,” he added.
