The United States of America was reported to be the first country to approve the Respiratory Syncytial Virus (RVS) in the world.

RSV is universally known to be a common respiratory virus that usually causes mild, cold-like symptoms. And most people recovers in a week or two, but RSV can be severe, especially for older adults and infants.

Additionally, RSV is a "highly contagious" virus which causes infections of the lungs and breathing passages.

It is very common and spreads easily in coughs and sneezes.  According to the NHS, all children have had it by the time they're two years old.

However, In older children and adults, RSV may cause a cough or cold, but in young children, it can cause bronchiolitis - a chest infection.

Dr. Peter Marks, the senior US Food and Drug Administration, revealed in a statement on 3 May, he said thus:

“the approval of the first RSV vaccine is an important public health achievement to prevent a disease which can be life-threatening.

“Older adults, in particular those with underlying health conditions, such as heart or lung disease or weakened immune systems, are at high risk for severe disease caused by RSV.

The US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention reports that RSV leads to approximately 60,000 to 120,000 hospitalisations and 6,000 to 10,000 deaths among adults 65 years of age and older.

Moreover, awareness of the disease has increased in recent years, in part because of the strain it has placed on hospital systems over the last two winters.
