According to Somalian authorities, 300 al-Shabab extremists have been killed by troops in the southern part of the nation.
They claim that airstrikes carried out by international partners assisted the operation in the province of Hirshabelle.
The Islamic group Al-Shabab has recently begun to lose control of large areas of central and southern Somalia.
For more than 15 years, the group has been fighting an insurgency against the national government.
Al-Shabab has not commented on the situation.
