United States Vice President Kamala Harris has thanked President Joe Biden for stepping down and endorsing her as the Democrats presidential candidate, vowing to defeat former President Donald Trump in the November presidential election.
President Biden withdrew from the presidential race on Sunday, stating that his decision not to run for reelection is in the best interests of the Democratic Party and the country. Biden subsequently endorsed Harris, stating that he had given the vice president his total backing as the party's candidate in the November 5 presidential election.
According to the London Evening Standard, Harris said she would "earn and win" the nomination. She added that she would unite the party and country to defeat Trump.
“I am honored to have the President’s endorsement and my intention is to earn and win this nomination. Over the past year, I have travelled across the country, talking with Americans about the clear choice in this momentous election. And that is what I will continue to do in the days and weeks ahead.
“I will do everything in my power to unite the Democratic Party and unite our nation to defeat Donald Trump and his extreme Project 2025 agenda." She said.
