This visit follows recent events where Hamas militants based in Gaza breached Israel's heavily fortified border, resulting in the tragic loss of over 1,400 lives primarily civilians, through acts of violence including shooting, stabbing, and arson.
In response to these distressing developments, Israel has launched extensive airstrikes on Gaza, which is under Hamas control, and has mobilized tens of thousands of troops along the border, possibly in preparation for a full-scale ground operation.
Secretary of State Antony Blinken has stated that President Biden's visit is intended to convey "solidarity with Israel" and reaffirm an "ironclad commitment to its security."
The United States has already dispatched two aircraft carrier strike groups to the eastern Mediterranean region with the aim of deterring any hostile actions against Israel.
In addition, it's worth noting that Iran issued a warning on Monday, suggesting the possibility of "pre-emptive action" against Israel "in the coming hours" and has consistently cautioned against a ground invasion of Gaza.
“The resistance leaders” will not allow Israel “to do whatever it wants in Gaza” said Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian.
