Police Raid Fake Alcohol Production Facility, Arrest Couple

During the operation, containers of mixtures suspected to be ingredients for the adulterated beverages were found, according to SP Ayubat Umma, the Zonal Police PRO who verified the arrest.

The Zone 2 Police Command in Onikan, Lagos, has uncovered a facility located at Muibi Olawunmi, in the Ado-Odo/Ota Local Government Area of Ogun State, which is used for producing counterfeit wine and other alcoholic beverages.

A couple, Mr. Austine and Mrs. Magret Idemudia, were apprehended, and they confessed to producing these beverages, which have been distributed across the southwest region for the past six years.

Upon learning of their illicit operations, AIG Olatoye Durosinmi, Assistant Commissioner of Police Zone 2, instructed CSP Ngozi Braide, head of the Raider Section, to conduct a raid on the premises.

SP Ayubat Umma, the Zonal Police Public Relations Officer, confirmed the seizure of containers with mixtures believed to be components for the fake drinks, along with unlabeled and falsely branded bottles of the adulterated alcohol.

Additional equipment was seized from the apartment, including funnels, sealing machines, and pumps used in the drink production process.

On April 4, 2024, the team, led by CSP Ngozi Braide, executed the raid and interrogated Mrs. Margret Idemudia.

Other items found included corkscrews, filtering funnels lined with white handkerchiefs, and packaging labels for 'Del-Mud', 'Del-Mud Royal', and 'Smooth Brandy Wine Drinks'.

In light of these findings, AIG Durosinmi urges the public to be vigilant when purchasing food and drinks, highlighting the grave health risks posed by these tainted products.

He assured that the investigation is being taken seriously and further information will be released as it becomes available.
