The Osun State Government is urging residents to undergo HIV/AIDS screening to understand their health status emphasizing that the disease is no longer a death sentence.

This call to action was made during an event in Osogbo on Tuesday, where the state’s Commissioner for Health, Barr. Jola Akintola, highlighted the government's commitment to eradicating the epidemic by 2030, aligning with global health targets.

In his address delivered by Dr. Isiaka Adekunle, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Akintola noted that early detection and consistent treatment can significantly improve outcomes for those living with HIV/AIDS.

He reassured the public that the government is actively involved in the fight against the disease, stating, “Though we have many partners in the control and management of HIV, the government is not leaving it to the partners alone.”

Akintola appealed to residents to seek testing, stressing that no one should succumb to HIV/AIDS today, given the availability of effective medications. He emphasized the importance of putting all affected individuals on treatment to reduce transmission rates.

Additionally, Olusegun Daramola, Executive Secretary of the Osun State Agency for the Control of AIDS (OSACA), praised Governor Ademola Adeleke for his dedication to enhancing healthcare services for those in need.

Daramola stated, “These items will undoubtedly enhance our capacity to screen citizens for HIV, and we are confident that it will make a significant impact on the lives of us all.”
