An indefinite strike has commenced at the Ladoke Akintola University of Technology Teaching Hospital in Ogbomoso, Oyo State, as the Association of Resident Doctors (ARD) seeks to address several unmet demands.
The industrial action, which began on March 7, 2025, follows a unanimous decision by the ARD congress to protest the non-payment of the minimum wage, despite its implementation for other health workers in the state.
Other grievances include a significant shortfall in February salaries, unauthorized deductions for insurance indemnity, neglect of dilapidated call rooms, and a severe manpower shortage across departments.
The doctors are also calling for the implementation of an accoutrement allowance, payment of upgrade arrears, and refunds for examination and update courses. Additionally, they demand the payment of the Medical Residency Training Fund.
The ARD has expressed dissatisfaction with the lack of progress on these issues, despite previous meetings with state officials. The association has written to Governor Seyi Makinde and relevant commissioners, but so far, no action has been taken to address their concerns.
