The federal government has allocated N30 billion to enhance mechanized farming across the nation’s 30 universities of agriculture.
This funding aims to enable these institutions to initiate immediate mechanization efforts, as announced by Minister of Education Dr. Tunji Alausa during a retreat for pro-chancellors of federal universities in Abuja on Tuesday.
Dr. Alausa underscored the necessity for specialized universities to concentrate on their core missions, instructing them to discontinue programs that deviate from their primary agricultural focus.
He revealed that each university will receive N1 billion as a start-up grant to facilitate this initiative, emphasizing the critical role that mechanized farming systems will play in advancing agricultural education and productivity in Nigeria.
