Doctors at UCH Commence Three-Day Strike after Alleged Assault

On Thursday, resident doctors from the Association of Resident Doctors, University College Hospital, Ibadan in Oyo State, commenced a three-day strike following an alleged assault on one of their members by relatives of a patient in the hospital.

The ARD President, John Oladapo, disclosed to the press in Ibadan, that the doctors were asking for a public apology from those who assaulted and inflicted injuries on him on Sunday.

Oladapo observed that his colleague was the victim of a deliberate, premeditated, planned rage and furious assault by a patient’s relation on Sunday.

He further elaborated that the doctor was attending to a familiar Sickle Cell patient in a painful crisis at the Emergency Department when the two men confronted him in the consulting room and began assaulting him.

He continued, “The mother of the patient being seen who tried to intervene was also beaten up in this assault. In the doctor’s attempt to escape, the men chased him down and beat him up.

He also added that injuries were sustained before the security team intervened.

To avoid future occurrences in the hospital, the president called on the UCH management to improve its security architecture.
