Ban Nurses From Using Their Phones At Work – Appeal to GHS

The President for the Ghana Registered Nurses and Midwife association, Mrs. Perpetual Ofori Ampoful says there is no telephone for the hospitals and sometimes nurses would have to use their personal cells to call the doctor and also for other necessity. She said that the only way nurses can be restricted is when there are provisions before such decisions can been made.

Nurses cannot be restricted from using their phones however they will be advised to put their phones down and concentrate on their work as it distracts the nurses from doing their work, she added.

There are instances where nurses and midwives use their phones for other things aside from work but most of the time if you have to call in a doctor or have to do something there are no telephones. We have an association with whom we’ve talked about this in the public domain over time that look we understand the challenges that are at the workplace but please if you are at work if it is not that you are using your phone for the work that you are doing keep it away.

Just like it's not that jurisdictions look if you travel to well developed countries there are telephones that are network they are telephones that you can make calls outside the vicinity of the hospital. They actually phones that you can even make ID calls international calls so it makes communication very easy within the hospital and your contact with outside the hospital.

In that case you don’t need your phone so when you go out this is a midwife only use their phones to during break they go on their 30 minute break on their one hour break that is the time they use their phones where they can make their personal calls they can send their messages and all of them but as soon as you break time is over you can not use your phones.

What I can tell my colleague is ensure that any point in time they applied the standard steps so they must be guided by the profession and the standards that are set if the patient is in front of customer care means you must focus on the person that is not the time that you spend time on your phone if for any reason that phone oh oh that's one minute or two minutes that you need to be on your phone if it is related to another patient's care in relation to the same work that you are doing you must excuse the patient the patient excuses you to do that within the shortest possible time and then you come back to the patient."
