VeryDarkMan Denies Defaming Femi Falana
Nigerian social media critic Martins Vincent Otse, professionally known as Verydarkman, has refuted accusations of slander against notable human rights lawyer Femi Falana, SAN.
VeryDarkMan denied the allegations in a video post via his Instagram account while conveying his deep reverence for Falana, whom he portrayed as his uncle.
This denial is coming after Nigerian rapper Falz threatened legal actions against Verydarkman on Wednesday for calling out him and his father, Femi Falana, for their involvement in a voice recording linked to a contentious bribery case involving popular Nigerian crossdresser, Idris Okuneye, famously known as Bobrisky, and the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).
Meanwhile, VeryDarkMan’s lawyer, Deji Adeyanju, has replied to the issue, explaining that VDM simply enquired about the validity of Bobrisky’s allegations in the leaked voice recording and did not plan to defame Femi Falana.
The statement read: “We’re solicitors to Mr. Martins Vicent Otse, now called our client, on whose directive we act. Our client was given your letter dated September 25, 2024, on the above subject matter wherein you insisted on the withdrawal of his Instagram publication comprising a voice recording between Mr. Okuneye Idris Olarenwaju (Bobrisky) and a third party.
“Our client refutes defaming Mr. Femi Falana, SAN, a prominent Senior Advocate of Nigeria and globally recognised human rights advocate, but asserts that he only published the said news to get the relevant agencies and even your client to initiate thorough findings into the far-reaching accusations made by Mr. Okuneye in the alleged voice recording, especially for some features of the voice recording that have been confirmed by Mr. Folarin Falana in his solicitor’s letter dated September 25, 2024.”
VeryDarkMan’s lawyer stressed that the main focus should be investigating the accusations Bobrisky reportedly made against certain EFCC personnel rather than pursuing a defamation case.
“Our client holds Mr. Femi Falana, SAN, in high esteem and recognises his dedication to protecting human rights and the rule of law in Nigeria.
