In his account of the events that led to his being "labelled" at the American embassy last year, well-known comedian Bovi Ugboma said, "I was embarrassed when the story was blown out of proportion."
Recall that the comedian-turned-actor was denied entry to the United States at some point last year following an altercation with a visa official.
During a discussion with his fans on Instagram, the comedian made this disclosure.
He had been asked by a fan to travel to and perform in Massachusetts, but Bovi claimed he was banned from entering the country because of an altercation with a visa officer that resulted in him being labelled.
The Delta State-born comedian, who was a guest on this week's episode of #withChude, clarified the situation by claiming that it had been exaggerated.
He avoided going into explicit detail about what happened between him and the officer providing the visa, though.
He acknowledged that the visa officer at the American embassy was not at all cordial.
“Like the way, everything went; it escalated in the media. They started to have different versions of the story; ‘oh Bovi got in a scuffle with a visa issuing officer; Bovi is banned from entering the United States’,” he said.
Bovi went on to say that he felt really ashamed when the tale began to be embellished.
He pondered how someone could approach a visa officer given that they are enclosed behind a glass wall.
He said, “If I remember correctly, all I did was ask him, ‘do you see how many visas I have gotten in the last 10 years? You know because in the last 10 years, I’ve always had two American visas, one for work, one for holiday, at the same time.
“And his response was ‘there is a new sheriff in town’ and pushed my passport and my wife’s back, leaned back and picked his jug,” Bovi narrated.
The comedian also discussed his difficult upbringing and the relationship he had with his father.
He concluded his statement by saying “I don’t want to raise my kids the way I grew up under my old man, so I am trying to be different.”
