Jay Bhad’s nomination in the New Artiste of the Year category of the 24th edition of the Vodafone Ghana Music Awards has been cancelled by the board.
After considering a petition by broadcaster and VGMA Academy member Austine Woode, the VGMA Board made it clear in a news release on Wednesday, April 5, that the review was required.
Jay Bhad was not a new artist in the plan, according to Austine Woode's evidence, because he was nominated for the 2021 Vodafone Ghana Music Awards.
'Sore,' their joint effort, earned Jay Bhad and Yaw Tog a nomination for Best Collaboration of the Year in 2021.
Sections of the press release stated that Jay Bahd's selection in the "Best New Artiste" category was one of the submissions that attracted a lot of public interest.
“After deliberations, the Board agrees that Jay Bahd is not new to the scheme, because of his shared nomination of Yaw Tog’s ‘Sore’ for Collaboration of the Year in 2021.
“This means he’s not eligible as a nominee for the Best New Artiste category of the 24th Vodafone Ghana Music Awards. The error has been corrected, and Jay Bahd and his team have been informed accordingly. The inconvenience is deeply regretted.”
Due to Jay Bhad's departure from the New Artiste of the Year category, performers like DJay, Ewura Abena, Chief One, Lasmid, DJ Azonto, and Malcolm Nuna will now compete for the honor.
On May 6, 2023, the Grand Arena in Accra will host the 2023 Vodafone Ghana Music Awards.
