After being released from police custody, street-pop superstar Portable has previewed a brand-new song.
Portable was detained on the evening of March 31, 2023 after the 72-hour deadline passed for him to accept the police invitation. This came after an incident in which the musician was seen fighting off police officers sent to make an arrest at a recreation facility he owns in Ogun State went viral.
In the video, He rained insults at the police, saying they had no right to enter his business center without an invitation.
The arrest was prompted by a petition signed by Manny Monie, a former signee of Portable, who alleged that Portable had broken into his studio, destroyed his recording equipment, and assaulted him.
On April 3, 2023, the musician was arraigned in court on six counts that allegedly involve assault and stealing someone else's musical instruments. He was given a N300,000 bail bond and two sureties in the same amount. The court decided that both sureties had to own land close to the court.
The hearing has been postponed to April 26 after the judge determined that Portable must stay at the Ilaro Correctional Facility until he complies with the bail requirement.
After being freed, Portable posted a sneak peek of a brand-new song about his run-in with the authorities on his Instagram page.
The artist claimed in the video, titled "Federal Government Liabiality," that he is not a prisoner and expressed his admiration for the power of the legal system, which he said was second only to God.
The new track by Portable is inspired by Naira Marley, who notably published his popular song "Soapy" following a brief stay in Kirikiri Prison.
