Davido, a well-known singer and songwriter from Nigeria, revealed in a recent interview that his father had 'bribed' him to return to school.
Davido, whose full name is David Adedeji Adeleke, opened up in an interview on the most recent episode of the +44 Amazon Music podcast about his scholastic experiences. The 30-year-old music legend, well-known for his popular songs and unique lifestyle, acknowledged that he initially left school to pursue his music career, but his father got involved and persuaded him to stay in school.
Davido described how he had quit school to concentrate on his music, which had developed into a potential career for him. But his well-off businessman and philanthropist father was adamant that he should finish school. Chief Adeleke resorted to pledging to construct his son a top-notch studio and pay for his music videos in order to inspire him.
He said, “My dad is just big on education. The first place I came to when I ran from home was London. From there I came back to Nigeria and my dad wanted me to go to school ask so I was like 'What is in it for me?'
“He said if I go to school, he has a land not far; he will build me a studio. But I should go to school from Mondays to Fridays and on weekends, work in the studio during the weekend. It was a world-class studio. He will give me money to shoot some videos."
Davido stated that it served as a significant impetus for him to change his mind and return to school. The singer finally received a second-class upper degree from Babcock University in Osun State's music department.
Davido, a musician who has received numerous honors and prizes, is well-known for his charitable work and has participated in a number of charitable endeavors. He has also supported educational efforts in Nigeria, such as giving scholarships to disadvantaged kids, and has been a champion for education.
