A fast-rising Nigerian singer, Goodnews Emuemu, famously known as Gnewzy, was allegedly kidnapped in Delta State.

The singer, who is signed to Eric Many Records, was reportedly abducted on his way back from a show in the early hours of Monday, April 29, 2024.

According to his manager, Obas9ice, who was also in the vehicle when the incident occurred, they were accosted on Eklat Road in the Ughelli axis of the state by some gunmen who were dressed in police uniforms.

Obas9ice revealed that shortly after Gnewzy was whisked away, the kidnappers sent an email to the record label, seeking a ransom of $200,000.

The email, according to journalists, read, Hi, Dilly. You have seven days to pay $200,000 for your artist, Gnewzy, or we will kill him. We will send an email to you in five days on the location for drop-off. Involve the police or mark the money, and he will be killed.

Similarly, a statement signed by Dayo Showemimo, the record label’s project coordinator, noted that they were currently working with law enforcement agents to resolve the case.

Due to the incident, Obas9ice has been cooperating with the Division A police station in Ughelli, making available his account and statement of the events.

The company also urged members of the public to provide any information they might have that could foster the artist's safe return.
