

Nigerian filmmaker and actress Olufunke Ayotunde Akindele, widely known as Funke Akindele, has disclosed why she no longer attends church services physically.
She made the revelation in a viral video posted on her Snapchat handle, where she was seen preparing breakfast for her children while getting them ready for church.
In the video, the actress said, “I am making breakfast for the kids getting ready for church." Please don’t be annoyed I am not going to church. Anytime I go to church, it’s me they focus on to take pictures of, so I will join online. Cheerful Sunday.”
Her comments have since triggered reactions on social media, with many fans expressing understanding over the challenges celebrities face in public spaces, including places of worship.
The filmmaker, known for her vibrant screen presence and large fan base, remains one of Nigeria’s most prominent figures in the Nigerian entertainment industry.
Akindele won the same award in 2020 and 2022, making it her fifth win for the Best Actress in a Comedy category.
She is the most nominated actress and filmmaker at the AMVCA and the second director to gross over a billion naira at the box office and the highest-grossing director in the Nigerian box office with a total gross of over ₦4.7 billion.
