DJAN Denies Banning Burna Boy’s Songs Over Alleged Altercation
The Deejays Association of Nigeria, DJAN, has clarified that it has placed a ban on Burna Boy’s music from playlists following a recent physical altercation between him and DJ Tunez.
In a statement made available to journalists on Thursday, DJAN National President Prince Akim Edeh labelled the reports as “false and misleading" while urging media outfits to cease the spread of the falsehood.
The association has distanced itself from the report and condemned the unauthorised use of its logo to validate the false claims.
DJAN noted it is monitoring ongoing investigations regarding the incident and remains dedicated to fostering a positive music industry. Also, the association revealed that DJ Tunez is not an officially registered member of the organisation.
Part of the statement read: “We noted with grave concern reports surrounding a recent incident involving a disc jockey and Burna Boy. As a body committed to the growth and integrity of the entertainment industry, we maintain a firm and steadfast stance against any form of violence or physical confrontation. We are currently monitoring ongoing investigations.
“DJAN remains dedicated to nurturing a healthy and collaborative environment between all practitioners and performing artists within the music space.
“We advise the public to stay calm and allow the relevant authorities to investigate the incident.
"We didn’t and have no intention to place a ban on Burna Boy’s music or any other artist.”
According to reports, an altercation broke out at Obi’s House, a popular weekly Afrobeats event in Lagos, where DJ Tunez was allegedly attacked for playing Wizkid’s songs and not Burna Boy’s music.
