The United Nations Children’s Emergency Fund (UNICEF) has introduced the Nigeria Learning Passport (NLP) in Osun State, aiming to enhance educational accessibility for children.
This digital learning platform is designed to ensure that students can access quality education regardless of their geographical location.
At the launch event held at the Olagunsoye Oyinlola Auditorium on the UNIOSUN campus in Osogbo, UNICEF representative Babagana Aminu emphasized the significance of this initiative as a collaborative effort between UNICEF and the Osun State government.
He noted that Osun is now the 21st state to adopt this global educational movement, which was developed in partnership with Microsoft during the COVID-19 pandemic to address the educational disruptions faced by 1.6 billion learners worldwide.
Aminu highlighted that since its inception in 2022, the NLP has enrolled approximately 1.5 million students and is freely accessible online, as well as on mobile and offline devices.
This accessibility is intended to facilitate continuous learning opportunities for children, youth, and educators.
Governor Ademola Adeleke, represented by Head of Service Samuel Aina, expressed his administration's commitment to leveraging this platform to improve educational outcomes in Osun State. He recognized the NLP as a vital tool for bridging learning gaps and fostering a culture of lifelong education among students and teachers alike.
Muritala Jimoh, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Education, remarked on the NLP's potential to transform the educational landscape in Osun, marking a shift towards greater collaboration with development partners and donor agencies.
