A section of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), University of Abuja branch, tagged "Anti-Strike ASUU Members," has broken away from the union's ongoing strike action at the university.

Recall that earlier on Thursday, the ASUU branch in UniAbuja declared an indefinite strike.

However, the anti-strike ASUU members said that they would not be joining the strike during a news conference held just after the ASUU chapter declared a strike on Thursday.

On behalf of the opposing faction, the conference was addressed by Dr. Abubakar Kari, the dean and former converter of the ASUU national political committee, and Prof. M. Y. Gana, the former ambassador of Nigeria to Japan and head of the department of agricultural engineering at the University of Abuja.

They added that the cabal ruling over the local ASUU, which is led by Dr. Sylvanus, desperately want a strike to further their own interests at the expense of the greater good of ASUU members and the University of Abuja.

They refuse to strike over concerns that are not specific to the University of Abuja.

Speaking about the purported advertorial for the institution's soon-to-be-vacant vice chancellorship, the members stated that five Federal institutions have posted vice chancellorship advertisements thus far, and none of the five universities have gone on strike over the issue.
