Due to a significant decline in international student enrollment, particularly from Nigeria, fifteen universities in the United Kingdom have announced plans to terminate certain staff positions and discontinue certain courses.

A report published by University World News states that the postgraduate level was hardest hit by the dramatic drop in the enrolment of international students.

This change is also related to the UK government's decision to restrict the number of international students, as some of the concessions provided to them at that level have been reduced.

Furthermore, there are worries that the high cost of living that is experienced worldwide can have a detrimental impact on the enrolment of international students in undergraduate programmes.

Most universities are not exempted from the current scenario, including mid-tier universities, Scottish institutions, and the renowned Russell Group Universities.

Due to the financial challenges brought on by a significant decrease in enrolment of international students as a result of post-Brexit changes in UK immigration policies, Robert Gordon University (RGU) has announced a voluntary severance arrangement in response to staff redundancies.

Rising cost pressures and a significant cut in public funding were identified by RGU as key issues.
