Following the recent protests at the University of Ibadan in Oyo State, students have been directed by the institution's management to vacate the campus by 2 PM on Saturday, August 31, 2024.

On Friday, students expressed their discontent by carrying placards with messages such as “We Say No to Tuition Hikes” and “Our Parents Cannot Afford The New Hikes,” while blocking access roads to the campus.

The protests culminated in a meeting between the university's management and the student union leadership, resulting in a circular issued by the registrar, G. O. Saliu, announcing a three-week closure of the university starting Saturday.

The circular specified that the closure aims to allow students time to complete their online registration, with the first semester examinations scheduled to begin on September 23, 2024. The hostel facilities are set to reopen on September 20, 2024.

In light of the management's announcement, the Union of Campus Journalists reported that students plan to continue their protests until their demands regarding the tuition hikes are addressed.
