Stop Deconsolidation of Salaries: JUPTI to Plateau Government

The Joint Union of Plateau State Owned Tertiary Institutions, JUPTI has expressed its disappointment over the continued deconsolidation of salaries by the State Government despite earlier agreements reached between the duo to discontinue such.

In a communique jointly signed by the Union President Comrade Sunoe Longbaam and Secretary Comrade John Jilang at the end of a meeting held at the College of Health Technology, Zawan, Jos South local government area, JUPTI listed a number of agreements breached by the government, and called on the government to honor these agreements in order to maintain and sustain industrial harmony,

The communique reads in part: “The Council-in-session calls for the immediate constitution of the PLASCHEMA Board and the stoppage of deduction in respect of couples affected. The government should effect the immediate implementation of the 7% and 5% peculiar allowance as agreed upon without any fuprther delay. The Council while thanking the government for the implementation of the 2021/2022 promotion, however, resolved that all the attended arrears be paid immediately”.

While decrying the delay in approval for the release of the 24 months’ pension arrears to the benefiting retirees of respective institutions, the Union also called on the government to pay the 25% TSA withheld funds accruing to Tertiary institutions, stating that the issue is long overdue.

The Council-in-session frowned at the manner by which salaries are paid without accompanying Third Party Deductions and demanded that the Plateau State Board of Internal Revenue Service be mandated to come up with accurate tax revenue to avoid irregular taxation It also appealed that government should hasten the administrative process of salary decentralization.

The body went on to urge the government to hasten the domestication of the Polytechnic Act to allow for the effective running of institutions even as it bemoaned the continued indifference towards capital budget provisions for the tertiary institutions.
