Altini Kajiji, chairman of the Universal Basic Education Board in Sokoto's state ministry for education, expressed this view to journalists.

In his short time as chairman of the board, Kajiji has distributed more than 30 million naira's worth of sporting equipment.

He also explained that in addition to the 41,000 nonformal learning centers established under the project, over 1,700 volunteers trained as graduates of their own free will were employed.

“We have also constructed and equipped 76 post literacy skill acquisition centres across the state, in addition to construction and renovation of schools,” he said.

Kajiji explained that the board had also constructed boreholes, shades and toilet facilities in selected centers throughout the state.

He went on to explain that he had provided about 40,000 sets of furniture for classrooms in his state.

During the briefing, the chairman assured primary-school teachers that his administration was working to improve their conditions.

He said the improved welfare would make teaching much more attractive and help fill vacancies in rural districts.

The education boss today called on teachers across the state, particularly those under his administration, to move from lecturing towards a service-delivery model. He said improved monitoring would make sure that students received a quality education.
