The National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN) has called for increased access to flexible academic programs for both staff and inmates of the Nigerian Correctional Service (NCoS).
In a statement signed by NCoS spokesperson Abubakar Umar on Wednesday, the Coordinator of the NCoS-NOUN Special Study Centre, Controller of Corrections Francis Enobore, highlighted the new admission offers available at the university.
Notably, holders of National Diplomas with lower credit can now study courses of their choice, while Higher National Diploma holders seeking fresh admission will be admitted into the 300 level.
Enobore emphasized that these opportunities are open to both NCoS staff and inmates, praising the exceptional performance of some inmates who are among the best-performing students at NOUN.
The Controller General of Corrections, Haliru Nababa, expressed delight at the university's improved academic programs and reiterated the NCoS's commitment to collaborating with NOUN to fulfill its mandates of reforming, rehabilitating, and reintegrating offenders into society.
