The Minister for Budget and Economic Planning, Senator Atiku Bagudu, has reaffirmed the federal government’s dedication to improving education in Nigeria, with particular emphasis on addressing the issue of out-of-school children.

This commitment was highlighted during an interactive session with the House of Representatives Committee on Alternative Education, led by Hon. Ibrahim Almustapha Aliyu, representative of Wurno/Rabah Federal Constituency in Sokoto State.

During the session, Senator Bagudu detailed various efforts and collaborations that the government has undertaken as part of the Renewed Hope Agenda. He emphasized that the federal government is not relying solely on budgetary allocations but is also actively seeking international support.

"During our recent visit to Qatar, with the backing of President Bola Tinubu, we engaged with the Qatar Foundation and Qatar Charity to explore potential assistance. They have promised to provide support for our educational initiatives," Bagudu stated.

The minister also disclosed the fruitful discussions with the Islamic Development Bank (IDB) during its annual meetings, where education was a central topic.

Furthermore, he revealed ongoing negotiations with the World Bank for the Human Opportunities Capital Program (HOPE), which aims to enhance governance, education, and health. This program is designed to strengthen educational delivery mechanisms and boost teacher recruitment across the nation.

Senator Bagudu stressed the need for cooperation among federal, state, and local governments, particularly in light of a recent Supreme Court judgment concerning local government funding.

Additionally, he reiterated President Tinubu's directive to expand the school feeding program to benefit all children, underlining the administration's commitment to inclusive education.
