The National Association of Academic Technologists (NAAT) has issued a 21-day ultimatum to the federal government, demanding the payment of five and a half months of withheld salaries.
This decision emerged from NAAT's 56th National Executive Council meeting held recently in Taraba State.
In a letter addressed to the Minister of State for Labour and Employment, signed by NAAT President Comrade Ibeji Nwokoma, the association emphasized that failure to meet their demands would result in a withdrawal of services across universities.
The letter, which was also sent to the Nigeria Labour Congress and the National Universities Commission, highlighted the ongoing issues that prompted this ultimatum.
Among the key grievances cited were the non-release of an enabling circular regarding CONTISS 14 and 15, unresolved payment of minimum wage arrears for certain members, and overdue salary increases.
The association also raised concerns about inadequate infrastructure within universities, including dilapidated laboratories and outdated equipment, as well as insufficient training for academic technologists on modern technologies.
NAAT expressed its frustration over the government's failure to adhere to previous agreements made following an industrial action that took place from March to August 2022.
Despite resolutions reached during that period, many issues remain unresolved, prompting this latest ultimatum.
The union has made it clear that if no satisfactory action is taken by the end of the three-week period, they will initiate industrial action without further notice.
