The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has issued a statement addressing concerns raised by Higher National Diploma (HND) graduates regarding their exclusion from the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) program.

The board clarified that it should not be held accountable for the inability of these graduates to participate in the mandatory one-year service.

In a statement released by JAMB's spokesman, Fabian Benjamin, the board emphasized that it has no authority or involvement in the admissions processes for HND candidates.

The statement specifically noted that claims from some HND graduates, who alleged that their exclusion was due to JAMB's actions, are unfounded.

JAMB highlighted that the law establishing the board clearly delineates its responsibilities, which include determining matriculation requirements and conducting examinations for undergraduate admissions.

However, it does not govern the admissions or processes for postgraduate courses or other programs offered by tertiary institutions. The board pointed out that many of the students in question had been admitted to their institutions for National Diploma (ND) programs without JAMB's knowledge, and their subsequent admission to HND programs falls outside JAMB's jurisdiction.

The board further stated that accusations against it are misguided and that some candidates have crossed legal boundaries, which JAMB intends to address appropriately.
