Students at the University of Ibadan are struggling to pay their tuition fees after a recent increase by the school authority.

Some of them, especially those from low-income backgrounds, have taken to social media to seek financial assistance to pay their tuition to avoid dropping out.

It was reported in August that the students of the institution held massive protests to pressure the management to revoke its decision on the rise of school fees for the 2023-2024 academic session.

The report also noted that fees were raised from N230,000 to N412,000, which stirred serious uproar from the students.

In spite of protests by the students and numerous interferences by some concerned citizens, the management of the institution has refused to give in.

A student of the institution identified as Femi disclosed, he is at risk of dropping out of the school if he does not pay the tuition before Friday.

Femi wrote via X (formally Twitter), "Please, sir, I'm a student of the University of Ibadan. Our deadline is scheduled for Friday. Without payment of fees, we won't be allowed to write exams, sir. I hope you assist me out with anything, sir.

“You can send me a message for any verification, sir.”

However, Femi’s stance that the last day for the payment of the school fees is scheduled for Friday is verified in an internal memo made available by the university’s registrar, G. O. Saliu.
