Out of more than 11,000 applicants who had previously taken the recruitment exam for teachers in public primary schools in Ekiti State, 1, 300 individuals have been chosen to move on to the next stage of the hiring process.

Only applicants with qualifying exam scores of 45% or higher were shortlisted, according to Prof. Femi Akinwumi, Executive Chairman of the State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB), who made this statement in Ado Ekiti during the interview/documentation process for successful candidates.

Intending to fill open teaching positions in the state's public elementary schools, Prof. Akinwumi emphasized that there was no space for error in carrying out the process following international best standards.

However, he said that candidates from areas with schools that are difficult to staff as well as those who live with impairments will be given extra consideration. He claimed that this would address the challenge of finding employees for schools in challenging terrain and isolated regions.

He stated that the majority of the applicants who were chosen in the current exercise will be assigned to rural areas to guarantee the availability of qualified employees in all of the state's schools.

He thanked Governor Biodun Oyebanji for granting the Board's request to hire qualified individuals for the state's Basic Education sector and promised that the process would be equitable and fair.

Akinwumi also asked for people's continued support in the recruitment process, advising those who weren't selected for the interview not to give up because the process would continue.

“The present administration in the State understands the plight of the unemployed graduates and will continue to do everything within its powers to reduce the number of people in the labour market”, he assured.
