The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) Southwest has issued a five-day ultimatum to the Federal Government to remove the Rector of the Federal Polytechnic Ede, Dr. Sani Man Yahaya after the expulsion of 27 students over a violent protest.

The student body expressed disappointment in the leadership style of the Rector, citing concerns about bias and conflict of interest in the committee set up to investigate the protest.

The protest occurred on May 9, 2024 when students from the polytechnic demonstrated at the Ibadan Zonal Office of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) over the arrest of some of their colleagues by operatives of the commission. The students were accused of engaging in financial scams.

NANS leaders including the Zonal Coordinator, Comrade Obasanya Monday Johnson, General Secretary, Comrade Oladipupo Olawale Ridwan, and Public Relations Officer, Comrade Oyewumi Festus Ayomide, stated that the Rector's leadership has failed to demonstrate fairness, empathy, and understanding, instead opting for punitive measures that threaten the academic and professional future of the expelled students.

The student body urged all stakeholders to intervene and address the perceived injustice to prevent the disruption of academic activities.
