Brave Foundation in partnership with Jumia Ghana, Marie Stopes Ghana, and Innovate Labs on March 8, 2023 organized an event dubbed Brave Girl Amplified at Accra Wesley Girls SHS.
The program, which was held in keeping with the International Women's Day theme of "Embrace Equality," sought to empower female students by providing them with practical skill development and health advocacy.
A total of roughly 360 female students from year 3 of Accra Wesley Girls SHS attended the event. A health presentation on managing menstrual hygiene and sexual and reproductive health was given at the beginning of the session by representatives of Marie Stopes Ghana. Two female keynote speakers from Jumia Ghana and Innovate Labs respectively followed, sharing their professional paths with the young women and encouraging them to follow their aspirations and break down barriers based on gender.
The Jumia Ghana team also donated sanitary pads as part of the campaign to encourage proper menstrual hygiene management and lower young girls' absence rates from school. The Amplified Workshop breakout session followed, where 39 general science kids from years 2 and 3 received hands-on instruction in 3D modeling and printing from the Innovate Labs team.
The Brave Foundation's goal is to become the largest female youth skills provider in West Africa for STEM education and entrepreneurship, focusing on cutting-edge technologies in coding, robotics, 3D modeling/printing, AI, and VR, respectively. The Brave Girl Amplified program is a part of that mission. The occasion was held in Ghana in order to advance female equality and sustainable development.
“We are thrilled to have partnered with Jumia Ghana, Marie Stopes Ghana, and Innovate Labs for this year’s IWD maiden edition of Brave Girl Amplified event,” said Tracy Owusu-Addo also known as Tracy Sarkcess, the Founder and Lead of Brave Foundation. “We believe that by empowering young Ghanaian women with practical skills and knowledge, we can contribute to the sustainable development of Ghana and promote gender equality in all spheres of life.”
